COMELEC headed by Chairman George Erwin M. Garcia reminded the public to be cautious about circulating fake news regarding the 2025 BARMM Parliamentary Elections.

Fake News No. 1: Some posts claim that the elections will still push through on October 13, 2025 despite the TRO on B.A. No. 77. The Comelec clarified that this is false. The COMELEC en banc immediately complied with the Supreme Court’s TRO issued on September 15, suspending all preparations for the elections the next day. COMELEC has no authority to proceed unless the TRO is lifted or the Supreme Court issues a final resolution. The commission stressed that the decision on whether the elections will happen rests entirely with the Supreme Court.

FAKE NEWS #1

Fake News No. 2: There are also false claims that the Gun Ban and other election-related prohibitions are already suspended.

The Comelec clarified that all election rules remain in effect. The Campaign Period (August 28 to October 11) and the Election Period (August 14 to October 28) still apply, along with all prohibitions such as the Gun Ban, Public Works Ban, and Ayuda Ban. COMELEC checkpoints also remain in place and strictly implementing all the rules. Requests for exemptions and other related permits are still being processed under the Omnibus Election Code and COMELEC Resolution No. 11156.

FAKE NEWS #2

* COMELEC Resolution No. 11156*.

The Commission urged the public to rely only on official COMELEC announcements and reminded everyone that spreading disinformation or false only misleads voters and weakens the democratic process.
